State Representative George Peterson, Jr. is the Assistant House Minority Leader and is currently in his 8th term of office in the House. He is married, has four grown children and the proud grandfather of four grandchildren. Peterson lives in Grafton where he has deep roots. His father nobly served the community as a selectman for many years and Peterson followed his footsteps into local public service as an elected member to the planning board and later a selectman himself before running for state representative. Peterson came to the House of Representatives with varying different perspectives and experiences. He once owned a successful family business in a local fish market. He worked on a commercial fishing vessel and even as a tree surgeon at one time. Peterson also served our country in the U.S. Army. He remains an avid outdoorsman. Through a solid reputation and campaigning extremely hard in 1994 George Peterson defeated an incumbent Democrat to win the seat. He has had several challengers since, the last in 2004, in which he has won convincingly by large margins each time. As the Assistant Leader of the House Republicans, Peterson takes the floor of the House and carries many debates. He has never been afraid to use the podium to speak out when the Democratic Leadership attempts to abuse their power of the process and to hold all Democrats accountable for their actions and votes taken. He serves his Republican members and his constituents with great pride and conviction in his role. George Peterson is a member of the Grafton Republican Town Committee. He has served as a delegate to the State Party GOP Conventions and in 2004 served as a delegate for Massachusetts at the Republican National Convention in New York City. For more info on Rep.
